How to design worksheets?

Supplementation: designing worksheets      Today’s most modern coursebooks usually claim that they have full coverage for learners’ needs. However, in previous chapters, we have read that it is not possible for a single coursebook to meet a learner’s needs. That is why many teachers have the urge to provide additional materials because the more learners are exposed to the language the more they are likely to learn the language knowledge. So, teachers have to find the almost “perfect” book for their students.      The first thing to do while choosing a coursebook for learners is to identify the gaps in that coursebook. The best way to identify the gaps is to have a checklist that includes questions like: Is it what your students need? Is it clearly presented? Is there enough grammar, vocabulary, or pronunciation work?      After doing the checklist, how can teachers improve the materials? With supplementation of course. We can supplem...

Happy International Women's Day!

Image
We have already familiar with what this day means and how important it is for women. International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women (United Nations, 2021). It also has a special place in the women's rights movement for bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, violence and abuse. Women have been fighting for their rights for years. Sadly, every society has not fully give women their rights. Inequalities differs from education to how women dress themselves. That is why, all around the world women are fighting for their and other women's rights. In this poster that me and my friend, Nur Ebrar C., have made we tried to attract attention to the fact that wanting equal rights does not mean wanting special rights.  In today's society, there are so many people who not fully understand the concept of feminism or people who are caught in the wr...

The Framework of Materials and Methods

1.1 Introduction: Setting the Scene      With globalization, the usage areas of English have also increased. This increase has led to the diversification of teaching styles. Despite the increasing diversity in teaching, many teachers from different parts of the world have shared their methods and techniques with their colleagues. In this post, we will look beyond our individual teaching circumstances to what can be thought of as a professional ‘common core’.  When we talk about the ‘common core’, we should take into consideration two kinds of factors: 1)       - the various wide-ranging criteria on which decisions about language teaching programmes are based, 2)       - on the pedagogic principles according to which materials and methods are actually designed   These two factors make up the 'framework'. Framework, on the other hand, is divided into two as 'context' and 'syllabus' under its own name. 1.2...

Material Design and Development for English Language Teaching

Image
The term material refers to the name given to things that students and teachers use to support language acquisition or learning. These materials can be videos, dictionaries, textbooks, DVDs, audio, newspapers, instructions, and discussions.    As materials have a significant impact on language learning, it is important to develop them carefully. This development can be done by teachers, writers, or learners. These developers might write textbooks, bring different sources into classrooms, share opinions or etc. So, how do we know that these developed materials are good for learners' language learning processes?    The answer to this question is "Material evaluation". This term refers to measuring the value of materials. This measuring is done by asking questions such as "Will the materials work?" or "Will students have difficulty using it?". However, just being easy or enjoyable does not make a material more valuable than others, it is also importa...
